Ultimate Coffee Chat: July

Ack! Did you miss the Ultimate Coffee Chat for June?! I did! I made it a point to join up this week, though to be honest, I may or may not be on a beach today, and let technology post this for me {wink!}.

If you are as relieved that June is over as I am, can I get a “Heeeey!”?

I really had a hard June. It was healthy and happy but lots of change. For someone like me who loves change and is borderline ADHD, that is saying a lot. I will post on the topic of losing one’s job (ugh) later, but for now, let’s just say, delving into unemployment and looking for a new job is not ideal for one’s self esteem! I am not a person who shouts my strengths from the rooftop, so cover letters and all that jazz can be hard: “I have 8 years of experience…..being awesome!” is sort of how I feel I need to be when selling myself in an interview, but in reality, I sort of am just like, “please, please, please give me a job“! But I know we all have been there, so I am trying to keep a positive outlook and in general it’s working!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you I did the Advocare 10-Day Challenge in June.

spark and advocareFull disclosure is that I sell the stuff. Advocare, I mean. But honestly, I sell it so I get the awesome discount! I absolutely love how I feel when I am doing a challenge and also how it motivates me to drink more water, take my vitamins, and generally take care of myself, which can sometimes go by the wayside (you hear me moms?!). I decided to re-group before summer so I can sort of stop my eating off the kids’ plates and start eating salads and chicken and all that…which brings me to this:

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that my Dr. says I have plaque in my arteries! Say whaaaa?

Seriously?! I am 43 y’all! He wants me to go on a statin- which I have heard good and bad about. He said, on paper I am a study in great health: run regularly, eat really healthy, cholesterol is great…but my family history is awful! Darn that DNA! I have just a bit of plaque, but honestly, it scared me off my egg yolks and butter! Lots of diets (paleo) say lard and eggs and butter are the bomb, but for me it just wouldn’t work- it would literally be a bomb to my body! I have to dial back on the beef and up the egg-whites and chicken my friends! End to baking with butter and the start of some new healthy recipes! Do any  of you have experience with a statin? I would love to know in the comments!

Staying healthy as I age

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am really looking forward to the 4th:

We are headed to family and fireworks! I love how excited the kids get and a vacation of sorts is just what we need! I always feel like it’s the start of summer after the 4th of July, so that means I can officially go to the beach now!fishing at the beach

That’s really all I have for now- lots of sports for the kids: field hockey, summer basketball leagues, baseball, and pick-up soccer! We are full of summer things to do! If you visited here looking for actual coffee, since this IS the “Ultimate Coffee” chat, I will add a couple of fun iced-versions! Have a great week!

Ultimate Coffee Chat: April Edition

ultimate coffeeGood morning friends!

I miss you. You know who you are! I woke up at 3 a.m. not able to sleep (what is THAT about?!) and remembered that I had to write up all the things for this morning’s Ultimate Coffee! So without further ado, let’s chat!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am on DONE with the Advocare 24-Day Challenge!

It was super easy and super fast…but WHY, when I followed it to a T and my husband, sort of, kind of followed it, did he lose all the weight?! Men I think, can lose weight way more easily than women. Not that I was solely tried to lose weight, but I wouldn’t have complained (wink)!24-Day Challenge

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am all signed up and ready to run the Shape Women’s 1/2 Marathon in NYC this month!

I can’t quite believe it, and I am not ready at all- I have barely been running, but I had the opportunity to actually run a race with a friend, and that has been high on my list of things that I’ve wanted to do! I have never been to Central Park- at least that I remember- so I am looking forward to it. I also love the idea that this is women’s only and they are using the race to coordinate with The Walk in Her Shoes (read about it here) project with CARE, whose mission it is ” to fight poverty and empower women and girls around the world.” Awesome- I hope they raise a lot of money.run a half marathon

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that last month, my boys had a birthday & so did my husband~

It was party, party, party around here. Actually not really! For the first time ever, I didn’t have a party for the boys (like the last Minion’s Themed one). They just had a couple of their besties over for a night of bowling and pizza (or pasta) and cake. Can I just tell you how much I enjoy NOT having, planning, or paying for a huge kids’ party. They just take the fun right out of it for me sometimes! This year, we didn’t have a bizillion presents or cake for days or broken bank accounts. I highly recommend NOT doing a party if you can get away with it!boys birthday

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that it is still snowing here. It is like the ultimate-April fool’s joke~

Well, at least it didn’t stick around too long, and I didn’t have to pull out the snow-pants, so it just may be here, my friends! Spring just may be finally here. Sigh. Yes!

That’s it-  I hope you have a wonderful rest of your Saturday and great Sunday tomorrow! Happy April! I am linking up with my other bloggers this morning over at

Good morning! It got kind of cold here this morning after a teaser of warm weather. I am a Goldilocks weather person, meaning that I don’t like it too hot or too cold, so about 10º warmer would suit me just fine! It’s another first Saturday of the Month, and time for Ultimate Coffee where I share what I have been up to here and at home. So grab your favorite morning bevvie and let’s get chatting!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am on day-7 of my Advocare 24-Day Challenge.

So, really not coffee for me today! I drink this Spark:

advocare spark

I am all about this Grape flavor! I have a vat of fruit punch right now, but next time I am definitely ordering the grape. They have tons of flavors though, so I will be trying them all, I am sure.

So far, I love it. It is easy, I am back to eating well, and drinking tons of water. I am keeping a food log, and taking fiber and probiotics. Love this program for keeping me on track for health goals. If you want to check out the site or order, my Advocare site has lots of info, but can be overwhelming – I would go to the shop/products tab to get an overview of everything they offer. I love that I eat all the food- the only stuff I avoid is cheese, sugar, caffeine, and most processed food. I am not a dairy-girl so, the cheese is easy. We are really eating just like before, just more aware of the processed foods, like salad dressing and sauces. I have been eating some great meals, and this week, I plan to share more of what this looks like in meal-plan form.

If we were having coffee Spark, I’d tell you that I went running twice this week.

Which was a nice re-entry, but it’s been too long. I haven’t been able to run, since I had the flu/brochial thing that turns into Pnumonia. It is going around everywhere here, so it kind of derailed me for a solid month. I was coughing so hard, I gave myself an almost hernia- good news is that it is just starting to heal. Oy.

And my shoes are horrible! I need new running shoes. I had Brooks, but I can’t even use them to walk as they all of sudden are giving me blisters. Not good. I may go back to Nike Vomeros, as I liked them before, but I can’t remember what size or if I needed wide- so now I can’t buy them online, I have to go in person…and am delaying that for reasons that I don’t even understand myself!my old running shoes

If we were having coffee Spark, I’d tell you that I got some great reads in during February.

I think the benefit of being sick, is reading. It is the only time, I can sit for a long time and commit to reading. I shared it on the blog, but my faves for the month are:

All the Missing Girls, by Megan Miranda

and

Big Little Lies, by Lianne Moriarty

These were both super fun reads. You can read my quick summary of them, and 4 more books that I read this month (!!What?!), or you can click on them, and Amazon can tell you about them!

If we were having coffee Spark, I’d tell you that my house is sort of a disaster.

We are getting our basement finished-whoohoo! I love it. I love it. Oh, did I tell you? I love it! But the universe loves balance, my friends, so we had a little calamity with our plumbing to calm my excitement over our wonderful reno. If you follow the blog, you know I overflowed the jacuzzi tub four years ago…well, same bathroom, but it was the plumbing in the sink that sort of exploded and water came down to ground floor and then the basement…

leak in our living room from the exploded pipes

This is the leak in our living room from the exploded pipes- the ceiling didn’t collapse this time!

Good news, is that the damage was so much better than it could have been, and we are getting there now, every day to a sort of fixed situation.basement remodel

It’s funny though. When you fix up your house, little by little, the old part looks so bad. Patience and being grateful are sort of things I have to remember.

That’s it- For such a short month, February was chock full of activity! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your Saturday and great Sunday tomorrow! Happy March! I am linking up with my other bloggers this morning over at
