Fresh Grapefruit Martini

grapefruit martini

We were on a grapefruit kick for a while, as my boys love them, but then I guess we overdid it, and we have had 6 grapefruits sitting in the vegetable drawer for over 2 months.  They didn’t look spoiled at all, so I never got rid of them- Can I just tell you they were still good, and not only good, but still really juicy!

So that’s when I went to Pinterest to make my little creation for a Saturday night in. The Mr. ordered us some de-lish Indian food, and I made these. And between the two of us… {sigh} Parent night-life, this night, was not too shabby!

The recipe that I found is based on this one from Creative Culinary, off of Pinterest- love Pinterest! I change it a bit, but I always do, because, if you don’t change recipes to suit what you have on hand or what you like- well, you won’t make the recipe again!

So here it is: This makes 2 martinis.

Grapefruit Martini

Yield: 2 martinis

Grapefruit Martini

  • 2 ounces of vodka (the better the vodka, the better the drink!)
  • 2 ounces of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • 1 lime squeezed
  • ½ tsp. maraschino cherry juice
  • 2 marachino cherries for garnish
  • Sugar for the rim of the glasses (optional)

First, prep the glasses.  Pour a tiny bit of either lime or grapefruit around the rim from the already squeezed fruit, before you discard it.  In a small dish pour 1-2 Tbsp of sugar and place your glass, rim down and slide it around until the rim is covered in sugar. Repeat for all glasses.  Put a cherry in the bottom of each glass.

Next, put all the juices and vodka in a shaker filled with ice, and SHAKE.  Pour and enjoy.

To make a pitcher of this, use a guideline of one part vodka, to one part juice.  I would up the maraschino juice to 1-2 Tbsp.

This was so refreshing and deliciously fresh on a cold night.  Totally my new martini over the sometimes, overly-sweet Cosmo. And if you want to tell yourself it’s healthy  with all that fresh juice- go right ahead!  According to the USDA, one cup of Red Grapefruit juice has 93mg of vitamin C!! That is OVER my recommended daily intake, from the National Institute of Health.  A straight-out WIN for the Grapefruit Martini!
