There is so much of this, eating, drinking, watching, reading, buying, that we all do but I want to share some things I have been loving lately before I forget!
This Italian Love Cake (sometimes called Magic Cake) from Chew Nibble Nosh Blog was a great dish to bring to share at a party- the kids and adults seemed to really like it- plus it looks cool when it’s cut.
This Green Goddess Mac-n-Cheese from Moore or Less Cooking Blog was SO delicious! I would make this over and over again when you need a main dish for a vegetarian, or a side dish for a grill night. It was so fragrant and so cheesy. My big plus here with this dish too, is that I made it ahead of time and then popped it in the oven when I wanted it. Letting it sit for a few hours was just fine!
My friend made a yummy Sangria the other night that had a caramel flavored alcohol and cinnamon stick and apples in it. Since I didn’t ask her what it was, this is the one that I found for Caramel Apple Sangria from Wholesome Dish, that matched it I think.
My girls were loving the Netflix catch-ups on all seasons for Once Upon a Time– which was actually quite fun in a fairytale, sci-fi kind of combo theme. And the comic come alive, SuperGirl was fun too- I really like that one, and I would otherwise never have watched it- so thanks to these kids for finding the next fun watched TV shows for us!
We went to see Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Oh my word. What an awesome movie. I was nervous the girls- mostly 10 year olds, would be too scared, but they loved it- there is eye-ball eating and zombie-like scary stuff in this one, but the story line and characters are so good that I really loved it too! I don’t even mind that I now have to take my older daughter and will have to see it again.
If you follow the blog at all, you know I am reading the 2nd in the Elena Ferrante Neapolitan series of books, called A Story of a New Name. And I am currently listening to The Girl on the Train. Oy. Great and fast commutes this week! Love fun audio books for long car rides. I am reading this one, so I can watch the movie-this is part of my Reading Challenge this year- got to pack it in, this last 2 months! I love my Book Riot Read Harder Challenge(pdf), since it pushes me to read some weird things that I otherwise wouldn’t, like these:
Oh my gosh, I have a lot of reading to do….
I had to take my girls to the mall. Can we just talk about Christmas decorations and music NOT being up? Let’s all reign it in people.. Hold your horses! It is the week after Halloween, and I am not ready to listen to Christmas Music 24-7. Give me a moment to process Thanksgiving!
But what did you buy?! We went to Bath & Body Works– since FYI, all 11-12 year old girls love this place. So we bought (with coupons!) a great gift for her friend, hand sanitizers, candles and room scents that plug into the wall- also a game changer for us, since it so happens, 11-12 year olds kind of smell. No offense to them as a general rule, but the hormones are peaking and the odor is enough to make you want to buy some stock over at Bath & Body!
I also got my hair cut this past week, and I bought some great product at the salon. Thrix. It has no sulfates or parabens and generally not a lot of weird stuff at all- I love the smoothness after I blow dry- I have yet to try it for making the curl stay in my weirdly wavy hair, but it is supposed to be great for that too- the smell is lovely though, and the cost is the same as other salon brands, so I hide it from the kids and keep it just for me!
What have you been Eating, Drinking, Watching, Reading, Buying lately? I have been trying to keep track of the things I have been hearing that others just LOVE so I can amp up my gift-giving this year, so share all your great gift ideas in the comments, please!
