Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Yes. It is SUGAR.  Hating sugar is all the rage these days. I get it.

But, as I say, “It is homemade.”

This makes it better.  Not an excuse, but then I don’t feel the need to apologize for making homemade anything.  Healthier. Cheaper. More Delicious.  A Win-Trifecta.

Move along if you don’t want a 5 minute awesome chocolate sauce for ice cream or grown-up version of the kid-syrup you enjoy from a famous Pennsylvania town…you know the one.

My version has NO corn syrup. You can use organic sugar if it makes you feel better. Yes, you can.  It is delicious.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Homemade Chocolate Syrup

  • 1 1/2 cups Water
  • 3/4 cup brown Sugar
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup Cocoa
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla

Combine all the ingredients in a heavy bottomed saucepan over low heat; whisk constantly until the mixture thickens a bit and begins to simmer. Let simmer for five minutes at a slow bubble. Take off the heat and let cool, or serve warm. Store in glass container. Keeps for 2 weeks (If it lasts that long!)

I think he likes it. Yes. I am sure, he does. He fought me back with that spoon!

This takes maybe 5 full minutes to make, and tastes so much richer than any store-bought version.  My kids obviously love it, but I do too- no fake tasting chocolate here. Enjoy!
