Homemade Taco Seasoning

Today I am writing to tell you to forget those little packets of spices that you buy in the store for a dollar and think they are so convenient.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love a good convenience food.  Especially if it tastes good and doesn’t cost much.  The problem is that I use convenience foods a lot, but just reading a few labels, I think they have a lot of extra preservative,s color, sugar, and MSG in them… Isn’t MSG like illegal yet? Jeez, they have know it has  been bad since I was a kid…and well, that was a LONG time ago! Anyhoo, so the crux of my dilemma is that, because I try to read labels, but I also use convenience foods a lot, those little bits of crappy weird stuff is actually a lot more than I think.  So, generally I try to cut down on the garbage especially if it is as easy as this.  Homemade is always better for us anyway, and this is so easy to make a big batch ahead of time and keep for when you need it.  And I usually need it more than once a week!   In the words of the LEGO movie, “It’s Taco Tuesday!,” every week- so if you operate like I do, you will use this atleast that often! Perfect:

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons ground chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground sweet paprika
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon granulated onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • dash ground cayenne pepper

Instructions

Measure all out into a small covered container. Mix all together, and use 2 TBSP. for tacos in place of regular seasoning.

Notes

Now this amount is kind of small for do-ahead. If you want to make a big-batch just keep the proportions the same when you increase.

And if it happens to be Super Bowl Sunday, or another reason to make a layered taco-dip or Taco soup, then it is just that much more of a reason to enjoy your homemade taco seasoning version! Taco Soup
