Every time I want a drink recipe lately it comes up with “simple syrup” as an ingredient.
Well, it truly is simple:
- 1 part water
- 1 part superfine sugar
- Simmer both until the sugar dissolves completely (about one minute). Cool completely and store.
This is simple syrup. Yep. Moving on now- keep up!
Now my new favorite drink:
How to Make Simple Syrup…and a Tom Collins
Adapted from a recipe from Betty Crocker.
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 1 cup gin
- 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 1 cup club soda
To serve by the glass:
Mix all in a small pitcher. Fill glasses with ice, and fill 3/4 way full with the drink mix. Top with the club soda. Garnish with orange slices and 2 marachino cherries each glass.
To serve a pitcher:
Double the above amounts and mix all in a pitcher with ice. Float oranges on top, with a few marachino cherries.
See how the recipe is 1 part, 1 part, 1 part? Just measure 1:1:1 on the gin, lemon and soda. Then use a 1/2 part of the simple syrup.. This is an easily adaptable recipe, so I just love it for entertaining for two or for twenty!
