Ack! Did you miss the Ultimate Coffee Chat for June?! I did! I made it a point to join up this week, though to be honest, I may or may not be on a beach today, and let technology post this for me {wink!}.

If you are as relieved that June is over as I am, can I get a “Heeeey!”?

I really had a hard June. It was healthy and happy but lots of change. For someone like me who loves change and is borderline ADHD, that is saying a lot. I will post on the topic of losing one’s job (ugh) later, but for now, let’s just say, delving into unemployment and looking for a new job is not ideal for one’s self esteem! I am not a person who shouts my strengths from the rooftop, so cover letters and all that jazz can be hard: “I have 8 years of experience…..being awesome!” is sort of how I feel I need to be when selling myself in an interview, but in reality, I sort of am just like, “please, please, please give me a job“! But I know we all have been there, so I am trying to keep a positive outlook and in general it’s working!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you I did the Advocare 10-Day Challenge in June.

spark and advocareFull disclosure is that I sell the stuff. Advocare, I mean. But honestly, I sell it so I get the awesome discount! I absolutely love how I feel when I am doing a challenge and also how it motivates me to drink more water, take my vitamins, and generally take care of myself, which can sometimes go by the wayside (you hear me moms?!). I decided to re-group before summer so I can sort of stop my eating off the kids’ plates and start eating salads and chicken and all that…which brings me to this:

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that my Dr. says I have plaque in my arteries! Say whaaaa?

Seriously?! I am 43 y’all! He wants me to go on a statin- which I have heard good and bad about. He said, on paper I am a study in great health: run regularly, eat really healthy, cholesterol is great…but my family history is awful! Darn that DNA! I have just a bit of plaque, but honestly, it scared me off my egg yolks and butter! Lots of diets (paleo) say lard and eggs and butter are the bomb, but for me it just wouldn’t work- it would literally be a bomb to my body! I have to dial back on the beef and up the egg-whites and chicken my friends! End to baking with butter and the start of some new healthy recipes! Do any  of you have experience with a statin? I would love to know in the comments!

Staying healthy as I age

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am really looking forward to the 4th:

We are headed to family and fireworks! I love how excited the kids get and a vacation of sorts is just what we need! I always feel like it’s the start of summer after the 4th of July, so that means I can officially go to the beach now!fishing at the beach

That’s really all I have for now- lots of sports for the kids: field hockey, summer basketball leagues, baseball, and pick-up soccer! We are full of summer things to do! If you visited here looking for actual coffee, since this IS the “Ultimate Coffee” chat, I will add a couple of fun iced-versions! Have a great week!

Ultimate Coffee Chat: April Edition

ultimate coffeeGood morning friends!

I miss you. You know who you are! I woke up at 3 a.m. not able to sleep (what is THAT about?!) and remembered that I had to write up all the things for this morning’s Ultimate Coffee! So without further ado, let’s chat!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am on DONE with the Advocare 24-Day Challenge!

It was super easy and super fast…but WHY, when I followed it to a T and my husband, sort of, kind of followed it, did he lose all the weight?! Men I think, can lose weight way more easily than women. Not that I was solely tried to lose weight, but I wouldn’t have complained (wink)!24-Day Challenge

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I am all signed up and ready to run the Shape Women’s 1/2 Marathon in NYC this month!

I can’t quite believe it, and I am not ready at all- I have barely been running, but I had the opportunity to actually run a race with a friend, and that has been high on my list of things that I’ve wanted to do! I have never been to Central Park- at least that I remember- so I am looking forward to it. I also love the idea that this is women’s only and they are using the race to coordinate with The Walk in Her Shoes (read about it here) project with CARE, whose mission it is ” to fight poverty and empower women and girls around the world.” Awesome- I hope they raise a lot of money.run a half marathon

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that last month, my boys had a birthday & so did my husband~

It was party, party, party around here. Actually not really! For the first time ever, I didn’t have a party for the boys (like the last Minion’s Themed one). They just had a couple of their besties over for a night of bowling and pizza (or pasta) and cake. Can I just tell you how much I enjoy NOT having, planning, or paying for a huge kids’ party. They just take the fun right out of it for me sometimes! This year, we didn’t have a bizillion presents or cake for days or broken bank accounts. I highly recommend NOT doing a party if you can get away with it!boys birthday

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that it is still snowing here. It is like the ultimate-April fool’s joke~

Well, at least it didn’t stick around too long, and I didn’t have to pull out the snow-pants, so it just may be here, my friends! Spring just may be finally here. Sigh. Yes!

That’s it-  I hope you have a wonderful rest of your Saturday and great Sunday tomorrow! Happy April! I am linking up with my other bloggers this morning over at

Ultimate Coffee Chat: February!

ultimate coffee

Hey, hey there…Good morning my friends~ Did you get to sleep in? Get your morning routine in this morning? Read the paper, have some coffee, get a good workout in? Nope? Me either! I am going to a basketball game, then some ice skating lessons, and then a birthday party- the fun never stops at our house! BUT. It has to start with coffee, so let’s chat about starting February!

If we were having coffee I’d ask you How do you like your job?

I feel so lucky to have a job that has me at ease behind a desk, and able to have rest, free-time, and books all around me. Buuuuuut, sometimes, I might tell you that if I won the POWERBALL tomorrow- it wouldn’t bother me one little bit! Why I feel like I get SO much more accomplished at home then at work is beyond me- but I know this is a phase. February break with my kids at home and a few days home with them will send me to work, happy to go, and begging for my next work-day!

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that I decided to be an Advocare Distributor!

I did a 10-day challenge (like a reset of your eating clean) before Christmas and it was honestly the easiest and best clean eating reset type of thing I have done. I took lots of notes on what I ate and about the products so I will be able to share it all with you soon, but for now I have my Advocare website where you can check out all their products and they ship directly to you(!) I do need a bit of product education to bring me up to speed on everything they offer: general wellness, weight loss, and performance supplements and products, so I will be doing that this month quite a bit, and also starting my own 24 day challenge (which is a reset). Which honestly, when I ended my 10 day challenge, I felt so good, that I could have just kept going and going with it. The drink, Spark, is probably my favorite component of it all, as a coffee replacement- whoa?! Yep. No coffee on this thing! At least for a bit…I am still trying to figure out if it is the full 24 days or not!

Like my cup? Such an awesome pic! lol!

If we were having coffee I’d chat with you about the books I just borrowed to read for fun!

Big Little Lies, by Lianne Moriarty (audio book to entertain)

A Rule Against Murder, by Louise Penny (mystery)

At Home In Mitford, by Jan Karon (feel good)

See? These are fun! I started this morning with the Jan Karon book- whom I have never read any of her books, because they are “inspirational”, but I think that is fine with me (at this point anyway). She is one of the more popular writers among public library patrons, and people love her stories. The Louise Penny book is an Inspector Gamache book- the 4th of 11. I love her books and I have a stack of the series waiting to get to!  Big Little Lies is just for fun- no idea if I will like this.  I also have no idea when I should be reading them as I have a HUGE pile, but I want to- reading for fun is way easier- or it makes reading all the books easier, as it sets up a momentum.

And finally,

If we were having coffee I’d ask you not to call me after 6:30pm tomorrow.

I will be watching my Patriots and the game they play. This little thing called The SuperBowl! And eating all the food. It’s all about the food!

Chicken Taco Soup, from me (!)Taco Soup

Jalapeno Popper Sliders, from Real Housemoms

White Sangria, from me again- this one is a MUST, and doubling it this time!Lemony White Sangria
